WHAT IS ?

Kit4Cat is the name of our patented hydrophobic litter that keeps cat urine on top, making sample collection stress-free! The “litter” smells and feels like regular sand with a natural non-toxic repellent coating. It allows veterinarians, technicians and cat parents to easily passively collect a urine sample without resorting to painful invasive procedures like Cystocentesis. The kit comes with everything you need to collect a urine sample.

With All These Benefits

Why Use

Do you know why cats hide their pain?

In fact, it is by nature. Before cats became domesticated animals, they were lone hunters. In order to survive, they would hide any pain so as not to appear weak to predators. This is why cats will rarely cry when in pain, making it difficult to notice if they need your help!

FAQ FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Each Kit4Cat box contains 3 bags of hydrophobic litter (300g each) and 3 sets of collection tools (pipettes and vials).

It’s made out of a high-quality natural quartz sand with a unique nontoxic hydrophobic coating.

Depending on the size of the litter tray, you should use one or more of the three bags included inside Kit4Cat (2 lbs of hydrophobic litter is included). Kit4Cat should not be used in the same quantities as standard cat litter because only a thin layer of hydrophobic litter needs to cover the surface of the tray to prompt urination from the cat.

Yes. You can purchase Kit4Cat from your local veterinarian or at any one of our retail partners. This will allow you to easily collect the urine sample at home and then bring it back to the veterinary clinic for testing and analysis.

Cats love the natural feeling and texture of our patented hydrophobic sand. We see nearly a perfect compliance rate from cats.

Sometimes, cats like to dig around their litter before or after urinating. Even if the urine is completely covered by the sand, the sample can still be extracted just by moving the sand aside and using the provided pipette.

The urine will stay on top until it all evaporates. We recommend collecting the urine sample as quickly as possible since some test results will differ if not collected immediately. For example, over time the water evaporating from the urine will cause PH levels to change.

Kit4Cat is a single-use diagnostic kit and can be easily disposed of after a single urine sample has been collected. However, if you need to test glucose levels over a period of up to 48 hours, you can use a paper towel to absorb the urine from the surface of the sand, so that the same species can urinate again on the same sand. However, if there is any solid waste present, it cannot be reused as the sand will be contaminated for any further use. In general, the best practice is to use Kit4Cat as a single-use diagnostic tool

No. The sand will be damaged in the autoclaving process and will lose its hydrophobic properties.

No. Kit4Cat does not change any of the properties of the urine sample collected. Extensive studies have been conducted and there is no chemical reaction between the hydrophobic sand and any of the urine that beads up on top of it. In addition, several well-known veterinarians and research facilities have conducted their own studies and have submitted multiple samples to commercial laboratories. All urinalysis results were identical between their invasive collection methods and Kit4Cat. Click here to view a validation study that provides detailed urinalysis information and photos.

No. The dust is from the hydrophobic sand and will not change the urine sample properties in any way. Click here to view a validation study demonstrating that Kit4Cat provides a clean uncontaminated urine sample and that the presence of any hydrophobic dust does not affect the urine sample in any way. Moreover, Kit4Cat dust particles do not resemble other parameters which may be tested and as such, will not lead to an incorrect diagnosis.

Kit4Cat is non-toxic and safe if consumed. If any digestion occurs, it is not an amount significant enough to impart any negative effect.

Yes! Kit4Cat is made of natural ingredients which are environmentally friendly and recyclable.

  1. a) A visual examination to look for cloudiness or blood in the urine.
  2. b) A specific gravity (SG) test to see how well the cat is concentrating the urine.
  3. c) A dipstick test to analyze the urine for protein, glucose, bilirubin and ketones.
  4. d) A test for the presence of struvite and other crystals.

If testing for the presence of bacteria, we recommend taking a urine sample directly from the cat’s bladder. However, Kit4Cat does not change the urine sample’s properties in any way, so you can use it to perform a culture test in the same way as you might use a sample collected using “Free Catch.”

An output test can be performed by taking a dry paper towel and weighing it on a gram scale, then soaking up the urine that is present on the surface of the sand. You can then weigh the same paper towel again to obtain an exact measurement of the cat’s output.

Kit4Cat is a noninvasive method which eliminates trauma for your cat when trying to obtain a urine sample. When using an invasive method (such as Cystocentesis), you will sometimes see blood in the urine due to the needle puncturing the urinary bladder wall. By using Kit4Cat, you can always be positive that any appearance of blood in the urine was caused by the cat’s medical condition and not due to any human error.

Kit4Cat has been approved by thousands of veterinarians and technicians around the world and has gone through extensive research and testing. Many industry leaders in the veterinary community have recommended Kit4Cat during their speaking engagements at major conferences. There are also several veterinary universities currently using Kit4Cat in their research programs. Kit4Cat hydrophobic sand is sterile but once the bag is opened and the product is exposed to air, it has a shelf life of 72 hours.

Make sure the tube is sealed completely to avoid any leakage. You should give the collected sample to your veterinarian as soon as possible. However, urine can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours.

Coastline Global is committed to elevating animal welfare standards in the global veterinary community. Because it is noninvasive, this product is harmless as compared to a stressful collection method like Cystocentesis. Kit4Cat will produce the same results as the industry standard for feline urine sample collection.

We sell Kit4Cat to veterinarians in 44 countries worldwide, who use the product inside their clinics for urine sample collection. The sand will not affect any urine parameters and should be accepted by all veterinarians. Click here to view our validation study for more information.

The hydrophobic litter means that the urine will stay beaded on top. It is important to use the pipette carefully, so you don’t pick up any litter.
