Each Kit4Cat box contains 3 bags of hydrophobic sand (300g each) and 3 sets of collection tools (pipettes and vials)
Depending on the size of the litter tray, you should use one or more of the three bags included inside the Kit4Cat kit. A relatively thin layer of sand that covers the litter tray’s surface is sufficient.
Yes, your veterinarian can certainly supply you with Kit4Cat sand. This will allow you to easily collect the urine sample at home, and then bring it back to the veterinary clinic for testing and analysis.
Cats love the natural feeling and texture of Kit4Cat sand. You can expect almost a 100% compliance rate from cats.
Even if the urine is completely covered by the sand the sample can still be extracted just by moving the sand aside and using the pipette provided.
The urine will stay on top until it all evaporates. We recommend collecting the urine sample as quickly as possible since some test results will differ if not collected immediately. For example, over time the water evaporating from the urine will cause PH levels to change.
Kit4Cat is a single-use easily disposable diagnostic kit, and should be disposed of after a single urine sample has been collected. However, if you need to test glucose levels over a period of up to 48 hours, you can use a paper towel to absorb the urine from the surface of the sand, so that the same species can urinate again on the sand. However, if there is any solid waste on the sand, it cannot be reused, as the sand will be contaminated for further use. Please keep in mind that Kit4Cat is not an expensive diagnostic tool, and it really should only be used for a single urine test.
No, the sand will be damaged in the autoclaving process and will lose its hydrophobic properties.
No, Kit4Cat does not change any of the properties of the urine sample collected. Extensive studies have been conducted and there is no chemical reaction between the hydrophobic sand and any of the urine that beads up on top of it. In addition, several well-known veterinarians and research facilities have conducted their own studies and have submitted multiple samples to commercial laboratories. All urinalysis results were identical between their invasive collection methods and Kit4Cat. Click here to view a validation study that provides detailed urinalysis information and photos.
No, the dust is from the hydrophobic sand and will not change the urine sample properties in any way. Click here to view a validation study that demonstrates that Kit4Cat provides a clean uncontaminated urine sample, and that the presence of any hydrophobic dust does not affect the urine sample in any way whatsoever. Moreover, Kit4Cat dust particles do not resemble other parameters which may be tested, and as such will not lead to an incorrect diagnosis.
Kit4Cat is non-toxic and safe. No harm will come to the subject from digesting the sand, and if any digestion occurs, it is not significant amounts to create any negative effect.
Yes, Kit4Cat is made of natural ingredients, which are environmentally friendly and biodegradable.
a) A visual examination to look for cloudiness or blood in the urine.
b) A specific gravity (SG) test to see how well the cat is concentrating the urine.
c) A dipstick test to analyze the urine for protein, glucose, bilirubin and ketones.
d) A test for the presence of struvite and other crystals.
We recommend taking a urine sample directly from the cat’s bladder to test for the presence of bacteria. However, Kit4Cat does not change the urine sample’s properties in any way, so you can use it to perform a culture test in the same way as you might use a sample collected using free-catch.
An output test can be performed by first taking a dry paper towel and weighing it on a gram scale, and then soaking up all of the urine that is present on the surface of the Kit4Cat sand. Then simply weigh the same paper towel again, in order to obtain an exact measurement of the cat’s output.
Kit4Cat is a non-invasive method, which will cause less trauma to your cat when trying to obtain a urine sample. Sometimes, when using an invasive method, such as Cystocentesis, you will see blood in the urine. This is due to the needle puncturing the urinary bladder wall. By using Kit4Cat, you will always know that any appearance of blood in the urine, was caused by the cat’s medical condition and not due to any human error.
Kit4Cat has been approved by thousand of veterinarians and technicians around the world and has gone through extensive research and testing. Many industry leaders in the veterinary community have recommended Kit4Cat during their speaking engagements at major conferences. There are also several Veterinary Universities currently using Kit4Cat in their research programs.
